The Corners of Our Homes Vol. 15 - April Brown & Sarah Sklash of The June Motel

If you’re anything like us, the travel cravings right now are very real. Nothing compares to the feeling of arriving somewhere new, the anticipation of a schedule packed full of absolutely nothing and the excitement of checking into your home-away-from home. With us all sticking close to home these days, you’ll find us constantly internet-daydreaming about checking into The June Motel - a retro-inspired space with locations in Prince Edward County and Sauble Beach, Ontario.

Created out of a love of travel, good wine and creative designs, April Brown and Sarah Sklash purchased a dingy roadside motel and got to work reimagining and recreating what a motel experience could be. Longtime friends and modern Moteliers, the pair mirrors their love of all things retro in their homes. Join us as April and Sarah show us around the corners of their homes.

"This was my first reno project when I moved into my tiny lake house. I wanted to maximize space and give the whole house a little character and a pop of colour. I designed the kitchen with Ikea cabinets, and then used the SSS Collection of Semihandmade Doors to create a more customized look. The colour is a ‘Agave’, a green-blue that creates the boho beachy vibes that I wanted.

I was so in love with this Article couch that we bought for The June Motel Lobby Bar in Prince Edward County, so I bought a second for my own home. This is the Sven Sofa from Article. I also purposefully brought more of the Agave colour to the living room with the vintage rug.

It was the big trees, waterfront and sunset views that really drew me to this house in the first place. So we created multiple outdoor spaces so that we could really enjoy it all. My favourite thing is pouring a glass of wine, cozying-up around the fire table and watching the sunset."

"This space is still a work in progress and has been a fun design project with my husband. We spend our weekends hunting for antiques – still looking for something big and beautiful to put over the sofa.  We scored the chandelier off of Kijiji for a steal.

Where I like to chill on Saturday mornings with a magazine or Domino online - drinking many cups of tea. The boathouse is where I go to get away from it all and be super productive, thanks to the terrible WIFI!"
