In this series, we take a peek inside the homes of Wilet friends, family, and community. Grab a snack, get comfortable, and get ready to explore The Corners of Our Homes.

"Our home is a labour of love. My husband, Mike, and I collaboratively designed and curated each and every space. After many years of planning, we completed construction in 2016 and settled in to life with our son Reed (now seven).

We live in a small town on the coast of Lake Huron, Ontario. Our property is a short walk to the lake and is nestled in an old-growth forest; a cherished element that we work to reflect inside our space to encourage a deep connection with nature. We have unfinished white oak hardwood, unpolished slate tile, raw wood beams and natural limestone carried through the home to bring the outside in. We also focused on keeping walls in our home neutral, our walls are painted white with the intention of forcing your eye outside.

Our beloved ‘Coffee Room’ is our formal living space. Affectionately named ‘The Coffee Room’ by our son Reed when he was two years old, this room sees a lot of life. Every day we make time to make a latte (and a babyccino), to sit down as a family and discuss whatever comes to mind. During coffee time, we brainstorm, we problem-solve, we laugh, we listen, and we dream. This space is a cherished part of our home and of our every day. The custom linen furnishings were purchased through CF Interiors in Vancouver, the rusty iron chandelier is by Troy Lighting and the coffee table is solid white oak crafted by my husband.

We brought a dream to life by adding a sauna house and in-ground pool to our outdoor space. This is our favourite way to share time and to escape the busyness of life.

Our style is one of casual, timeless, and natural luxury. We favour natural materials like wool, linen, wood, and stone as they are in their natural state. Our principal bedroom is no exception to our ‘rule’. Our perfectly imperfect white linen bedding is by Wilet and it pairs beautifully with our handcrafted walnut bed and wool boucle bench.

In Reed’s room, we painted one wall a deep navy to resemble the night sky.  Honouring our values that Reed will enjoy all of the same luxuries in life that we gift to ourselves, his linen bedding is by Wilet in Pebble and Pebble Stripe and it beautifully accompanies his custom white oak bed frame and side tables lovingly crafted by his Dad.

Our kitchen was kept clean and bright, allowing the warmth of the wood and leather to stand out. Our recycled glass pendants bring a soft balance of imperfect to the crisp space.

A custom white oak kitchen table and slipcovered bench act as a welcoming space for family breakfasts and homework time in the evenings. The antique paddle was gently restored and nods to life spent on the lake.

Evenings in our home usually conclude in our Great Room. We enjoy the oversized limestone fireplace, (sourced locally on the Bruce Peninsula) most in the winter but also on those cool summer nights when the windows are open and the breeze washes through."
